Hey everyone! I'm considering driving for Uber, but my car has a salvage title. Does anyone know if Uber accepts salvage title cars?

Hi @john.lewis.24 , from my experience and what I've heard, Uber generally does not accept salvage title cars. They are very particular about the vehicle condition due to safety concerns.

That's right, @Roninoz . I tried to register my salvage title car once, but it wasn't accepted. Uber wants to ensure all vehicles are safe and reliable, which is harder to guarantee with salvage titles.

However, I think some cars with rebuilt or reconstructed titles might be considered after they pass state inspections and get the proper certifications. But even then, it really depends on the specifics of your case, including the quality of the repairs and completeness of documentation.

Yeah, my friend had a flood-damaged car that went through a rigorous repair process and obtained a rebuilt title. Unfortunately, Uber still rejected it. It's really tricky and seems to be handled on a case-by-case basis.

I believe Uber's main concern is safety. Even if a salvage car looks perfect on the outside, there could be hidden structural issues. They're strict because passenger safety is a priority.

If you’re seriously considering it, maybe focus on getting detailed repair certifications and passing a state inspection first. Even though it might be a long shot, having all the documentation in order could help your case.

I agree with @ABarron . Documentation is key. My cousin managed to get his rebuilt title car approved by Lyft, but it took a lot of effort and paperwork. It’s essential to have thorough records of all repairs and inspections.

It's also worth noting that even if your car gets accepted, you'll likely face challenges insuring it. Salvage and rebuilt cars often have higher insurance costs and can be tougher to insure at all.

And don’t forget about resale value. Salvage title cars usually have a much lower market value. So, if you’re planning to sell it later, you might not get a good price.

Thanks for all the insights! I guess it's safer to look for a car with a clean title to avoid all these hassles. Maybe I'll save up and invest in a newer model.

That's a good plan, @john.lewis.24 . A newer model with a clean title will also likely get better ratings from passengers, which means more rides and potentially higher earnings for you.

Exactly, and not to mention, you'll have peace of mind knowing that your vehicle meets all safety standards and requirements. Good luck with your Uber journey!

Thanks, everyone! This has been really helpful. I’ll start looking for a good deal on a newer car. Appreciate all the advice!
