Greetings, everyone,

I am gradually considering trading my M235i for an M2.
I reviewed several YouTube videos, the Dragy Leaderboard, websites, and other resources.
I now possess a query that I am unable to verify or resolve.
M2 OG: 370 horsepower, 1570 kilogrammes. 100 to 200 kilometres per hour 10.6 to 11.0 seconds

M2 Competition: 410 horsepower, 1575 kilogrammes.
100-200 km/h in 10.2-10.6 seconds

Comp is just 0.4 seconds faster than OG in a straight line. What is the reason? With an increase of almost 40 horsepower at the crank, it should exhibit much enhanced acceleration, correct?

I have not previously identified as a BMW enthusiast, therefore I just completed a comprehensive month of study on the M2 models (both original and Competition) before to finalising my purchase.

Two fundamental causes for the observed outcome:
The OG is lighter than the M2C, exceeding the 5kg you said, if I remember correctly.
2) Although the M2C has more *MAX* horsepower and torque, it features a distinctly different engine with an alternative power range and curve.

It is only mass. I have seen varying figures contingent upon the source.

At speeds beyond 200 km/h, the Competition variant should possess a greater advantage, given the S55 is designed for high revs and, as you said, has an additional 40 horsepower.

In the 0-140 mph acceleration test, the Comp consistently outperforms by over two seconds in the majority of recorded times I have seen.

-Increased mass.

The competition vehicle's weight has increased due to the upgraded brakes, altered exhaust system, and many other components. I read in an automobile magazine that the total weight of the brakes (rotational mass) and the exhaust is around 70-80 pounds.

-Tuning and turbocharger capabilities

Despite the fundamental tune yielding greater improvements with the S55 compared to the original N55, BMW does not optimise the S55 to its full potential. The N55, use 91 octane fuel with the standard turbocharger, is close to its maximum performance output. The competition will provide more benefits from a pump gas configuration compared to a pump gas tune, as well as with ethanol or racing fuel. The S55 can generate more power with fewer adjustments compared to the N55.

Having had a N55, I would get the S55. The N55 produces superior sound, particularly when devoid of a catalytic converter and resonator. It is remarkable how excellent it sounds; yet, it has more challenges with cooling and power generation on the standard turbo compared to the S55. Achieving over 450 whp on an S55 is rather straightforward and dependable with only a single tune. The N55 requires a turbo replacement, ethanol fuel, a substantial intercooler for constant track use, and more modifications.

If you do not want to modify the vehicle or use it for track purposes, the N55 is ideal; nonetheless, I would still recommend the competition variant in any case.

The essential information is as follows:

Bone broth DCT vs DCT or 6MT versus 6MT There is no significant performance disparity between the two until speeds above 100 mph, and even with conventional modifications, the difference remains minimal.

The original M2 has much superior sound quality, accommodates 18-inch wheels, and achieves 430 horsepower with relative ease. It is an enjoyable, robust street vehicle.

The M2C is undoubtedly a superior track vehicle, exhibiting more refinement. Once modifications begin, it will effortlessly surpass an original model, with 550 horsepower being achievable. However, the persistent concern of the crank hub problem remains if it is not addressed.

I am profoundly grateful to BMW for providing us with the option of selecting between the two vehicles.

Your remarks are now rational.

The disparity between the two is significant for us as drivers.

Both may be further modified in the aftermarket, however.

I drove an original M2 for around 250 miles this past weekend; it was an exhilarating experience. It is very predictable and smooth; but, when pushed to its limits, it has enough power to elicit joy, and it also produces an exceptional sound.

I am conflicted about whether to purchase the original item or wait for the competition, since I was determined to get a competitive option.

I believe you will lament not acquiring a competition model, since the M235 and the competition variant are quite similar.
