Common Myths About Salvage Cars
There’s a lot of misinformation floating around about salvage cars that stops people from even considering them some of it fair, some of it outdated. Let’s bust a few common myths. Feel free to add your own.
Myth 1: Salvage cars are always unsafe wrecks.
Not true. A car can get a salvage title for reasons that have nothing to do with structural damage stolen and recovered, minor hail damage, flood exposure, even a cracked windshield combined with other cosmetic issues can push repair costs over the insurer’s total-loss threshold. Not every salvage car has frame damage.
Myth 2: You can never insure a salvage/rebuilt car.
Partially true, partially myth. It’s harder, and some insurers won’t touch them, but plenty do offer liability coverage, and some offer full coverage after inspection. It varies a lot by company and state.
